Job summary

Luton Borough Council is seeking an organised Admissions, Planning and Elective Home Education Administrator to provide high-quality administrative support across the service.

You will assist with Elective Home Education oversight, manage enquiries, maintain records, and coordinate information for risk assessments while collaborating with EHE Officers and colleagues across the Council. The role may require occasional evening work.

Qualifications

  • Experience with administrative processes and procedures.
  • Experience using Word, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to draft straightforward correspondence and take accurate minutes.
  • Understanding Elective Home Education or school admissions is advantageous.
  • Evening work may be required up to twice a year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality administrative support across the Admissions, Planning and EHE service.
  • Support oversight of Elective Home Education, manage parent enquiries, and maintain records and databases.
  • Coordinate information for risk assessments and work with EHE Officers and colleagues.
  • Compile statistics, support FOI requests and keep information up to date with guidance and legislation.
  • Assist Admissions and Appeals Team during busy periods, process applications, and provide admin support.
  • Arrange and minute meetings, support the EHE Coordinator and contribute to pupil projections through data reporting.

Salary: £26,847-£27,709 a year pro rata Hours: 22.2 hours a week Contract type: Maternity Cover for up 12 months

We welcome applications from both internal and external candidates.

This role is available as maternity cover for 12 months. Internal candidates who are permanent employees of Luton Council will be appointed on a secondment basis, while external candidates and other eligible applicants will be appointed on a fixed-term contractfor 12 months.

What You’ll be doing

Luton Borough Council is looking for an organised and detail-focused Admissions, Planning and Elective Home Education Administrator to provide high-quality administrative support across the service .

A key part of the role will be supporting the Council’s oversight of Elective Home Education, including managing enquiries from parents, maintaining accurate records and databases, coordinating information for risk assessments, and working closely with EHE Officers and colleagues across the Council . The postholder will also compile statistical and management information, support Freedom of Information requests and ensure information for parents remains up to date and in line with current guidance and legislation .

The role will also provide support to the Admissions and Appeals Team, particularly during busy periods, assisting parents and schools, processing applications and providing general administrative support .

The postholder will also arrange and minute meetings, support the EHE Coordinator and contribute to pupil projections through accurate data and reporting.

What we’re looking for

You will have experience of administrative processes and procedures, with good IT skills and confidence using Microsoft Word, spreadsheets and databases . You will be organised and methodical, with the ability to manage busy periods, prioritise competing demands and work accurately within established policies and procedures .

You will have strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to draft straightforward correspondence, respond to enquiries, take accurate minutes and communicate politely and tactfully with a wide range of people, including those who may be frustrated or upset .

You will be a supportive team member who can work collaboratively while using your own initiative. An understanding of Elective Home Education, school admissions or school place planning would be advantageous, alongside a commitment to equality and non-discriminatory practice .

A Level 2 Business Administration qualification or equivalent experience is required. The role may occasionally require evening work, up to twice a year.
