Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is seeking an Acute Discharge Matron to provide strong clinical leadership and support patient flow. The role involves ensuring high standards of nursing care and implementing best practices in infection prevention, with a focus on compassion and respect for all patients. This full-time position offers an immediate start in January 2024.

Through strong clinical leadership, the Matron will support patient flow and Departmental Senior Nurses to promote excellence in nursing care, maintaining and improving clinical standards. The post holder will ensure all patients are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, valuing the diversity of the local community and beyond. They will promote best practices in infection prevention by ensuring a clean and safe environment, with clinical practices aligned with Trust policies and best practice guidelines to minimize infection risk.

The key responsibility of the Matron will be to support flow through the division and ensure a high-quality patient experience, achieved through high visibility, accessibility, and surveillance. The post holder will work clinically for approximately 20% of their time and may serve as a specialist in their clinical area. They will also be responsible for implementing the Matron’s Charter in their area.
The Directors, General Managers, and Heads of Nursing lead each Directorate. Matrons report directly to their Head of Nursing, who oversees operational management and strategic direction of nursing.
