Location: London (Please note there is an expectation to be in the office at least twice a week)


Duration: 6-month fixed-term contract.

Job Purpose

As an experienced qualified actuary at Canada Life, you will lead actuarial, statistical, and financial analysis for senior management, oversee analysis by other actuaries, and manage small to medium teams of qualified and part-qualified actuaries and analysts. Your technical expertise and commercial understanding will enable you to advise the business, influence decisions, and ensure risk management aligns with Canada Life’s risk appetite, statutory obligations, and policyholder and regulator needs.

This role is a 6-month FTC within our Modelling Production Team, overseeing and reviewing model runs and analyses performed by analysts and trainee actuaries. Proven prophet valuation experience and practical IFRS 17 and Solvency II modelling expertise are required.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Modeling and Analysis: Ensure accurate modeling, financial analysis, and advice, making commercially sound recommendations. Lead risk analysis activities and collaborate across functions to manage risk exposure effectively.
  2. Communication: Present insights and recommendations to senior executives clearly and effectively, tailoring messages for different audiences and influencing decision-making.
  3. Reporting and Process Improvement: Oversee production of reports and long-term planning, continuously reviewing and improving departmental processes based on industry developments.
  4. Control Frameworks: Implement and review actuarial control frameworks, ensuring high-standard, compliant insights and commentary for senior management and boards.
  5. Team Management: Manage, coach, and develop a team of actuaries, fostering their professional growth and ensuring optimal performance.
Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills
  • Technical Expertise: Strong commercial awareness, experience with complex models, and expertise in life insurance, IFRS17, and Solvency II.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging with senior management and boards.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to develop strong relationships across teams, demonstrating integrity and adaptability.
  • Initiative and Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and independence in decision-making.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in managing and motivating diverse teams, with coaching skills for technical and non-technical development.

Qualifications

Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (or equivalent).
