Job summary

BDO UK LLP in London is seeking a General Insurance Actuarial Manager to lead reserving, pricing and risk advisory for a portfolio of insurance clients.

You will project manage and develop the team, contribute to governance and regulatory advisory (Solvency II, IFRS 17) and help deliver value‑added services through data analytics and opinion work.

This role offers senior collaboration with managers, directors and partners, with opportunities to shape client delivery and grow the advisory practice.

Qualifications

  • An actuarial qualification is required, FIA preferred.
  • Strong technical actuarial knowledge with reserving experience.
  • Experience in non-life insurance and capital modelling is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a General Insurance Actuarial team delivering reserving, pricing, governance and advisory services.

As a General Insurance Actuarial Manager you'll join our London and provide advice on a wide range of issues. These include assurance services, external and internal audit, corporate governance and risk advisory, regulatory advisory including section 166 skilled person work and portfolio transfers, actuarial loss-reserving and pricing, taxation, solvency and regulatory compliance, management information systems, litigation support and forensic accounting. You'll project manage and develop existing team in offering a range of actuarial services and tools to a portfolio of clients within the insurance industry. This is expected to primarily include reserving and Solvency II work but is likely to also cover risk management, IFRS 17, pricing and data science.


You'll be someone with

  • An Actuarial qualification, ideally Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, with post-qualification experience
  • Strong technical actuarial knowledge including Reserving
  • Open minded and critical thinker
  • Some experience of at least two of the following in non-life insurance: reserving for accounting purposes; Solvency II Technical Provisions; Solvency II Standard Formula; Capital Modelling. Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial: IFRS 17/ risk management /data analytics/pricing/model validation/statements of actuarial opinion (SAO), mergers and acquisitions
  • Experience of managing others
  • Advisory experience would be an advantage
