Job summary

The Emerald Group Ltd, Search and Selection is seeking an actuarial professional for a commercially focused role in London, moving beyond traditional technical actuarial work to link pricing, reserving outputs with portfolio performance insights.

You will carry out quantitative analysis using probabilistic and deterministic approaches, support pricing tools, collaborate with stakeholders, and produce regular reporting with clear commentary on numbers.

Qualifications

• Degree in a numerate subject such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics.
• Currently studying towards actuarial exams, ideally with 1–3 exams passed or exemptions.
• 2+ years of London market analytical experience.
• Proficient in data handling and interpretation.
• Strong attention to detail and clear communication.

Job description

This is a slightly different actuarial opportunity and it isn’t aimed at someone who wants to remain in a traditionally technical actuarial role. It is much more commercially focused, taking outputs from pricing and reserving and bringing everything together to understand portfolio performance across all lines of business.

Key responsibilities including however, not limited to the following:

• Carry out quantitative analysis using both probabilistic and deterministic approaches, helping to break down complex problems and suggest practical solutions
• Support the development and ongoing improvement of pricing tools, helping to ensure they remain accurate, relevant and fit for purpose
• Work with stakeholders across the business to understand data requirements and translate these into clear, usable outputs
• Produce regular and ad hoc reporting, with clear commentary that explains what the numbers are telling them and why it matters
• Contribute to wider team activity, supporting projects and analysis alongside other members of the Performance Management team

Qualifications Required

• A degree in a numerate subject such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistic
• Currently studying towards actuarial exams, ideally with a minimum of 1–3 exams passed or relevant exemptions

Experience Required

• 2+ years London market analytical experience
• The ability to work with data and draw clear conclusion
• Comfortable using Excel or similar tools to handle and interpret data
• Good attention to detail, with a structured and methodical approach
• Clear communicator, able to explain findings in a straightforward and practical way
• Curious and motivated, with an interest in how actuarial work supports business performance
