Job description

Our Community Lives Day Services at Boyn Grove (Maidenhead SL6) and Oakbridge (Windsor SL4) offer stimulating activities where people can develop skills, find companionship, and improve their well-being. Having the chance to interact with others, visit different places, and learn new things helps prevent boredom and social isolation. Our activities are delivered through a person-centred approach, tailoring each activity to individual needs and supporting personal goals.

Boyn Grove has two specialised centres: one for adults with learning disabilities and neurodiversity, and another for older people living with dementia and related health needs. Oakbridge mainly caters to adults with learning disabilities and neurodiversity.

We are recruiting Activity Support Organisers for each service:

  • Learning Disability - Full-Time | Mon-Fri
  • Dementia - Part-Time | Mon, Tue & Fri

The centres operate Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.30pm. There may occasionally be requirements for evenings and weekends. You may be asked to work across both locations depending on activity schedules.

Main duties of the job

As an Activity Support Organiser, you will organise and host engaging activities for our customers, providing high-quality, person-centred support and care during their visits. Activities include on-site options like painting, music, games, gardening, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, and Rebound Therapy, as well as community outings such as bowling, discos, and nature walks.

Care responsibilities may include personal care (e.g., toileting), administering medication, assisting with food and drink, and supporting mobility.

This role requires a full UK driving licence to support off-site activities using our accessible vehicles (5, 7, and 9 seats).

About us

Optalis is a Local Authority Trading Company (LATCo), jointly owned by Wokingham Borough Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. We offer stable employment and opportunities for personal and career development.

Job responsibilities
  • Support customers in maintaining and developing skills and independence through tailored activities in various venues, both during the day and outside traditional hours.
  • Help individuals develop confidence, communication, social, and occupational skills, ensuring activities are flexible and support community involvement and personal outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with customers using appropriate methods (verbal, signing, objects of reference), presenting information in an accessible way to support informed decision-making and self-advocacy.
  • Assist customers one-on-one or in small groups to access community facilities, ensuring all necessary paperwork and support are in place.
  • Utilise resources from in-house and external providers, including voluntary organisations, to facilitate community engagement, work opportunities, and volunteering.
  • Support with welfare and care needs, including specific health requirements, practicing safe moving and handling, and managing emergencies.
  • Drive or escort customers using centre vehicles to ensure safe transportation when required.

Please refer to the attached job description for full responsibilities.
