Job summary

Sovereign & Bale is seeking an Activity Coordinator to design and deliver engaging, inclusive activities for young people aged 18–24. You will help build confidence, resilience, transferable skills and workplace awareness through sport, creative arts, technology, gaming, outdoor activities and community projects.

Working with Mentors, employers and community partners, you will ensure activities are accessible and linked to each participant’s progression towards employment, education or training.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and delivering engaging activities for youth or young adults.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills with ability to set clear boundaries.
  • Ability to translate creative activities into employability or personal-development opportunities.
  • Experience in youth work, employability, education, community development or careers.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, inclusion, and data protection.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver inclusive activities that build confidence, employability and workplace awareness.
  • Plan sessions with clear objectives, resources and adjustments for diverse needs.
  • Use sport, creative arts, tech, gaming and outdoor activities to engage participants.
  • Collaborate with Mentors to align activities with progression plans.
  • Develop employer talks, workplace visits and mock recruitment opportunities.
  • Coordinate partners, venues, resources and participant communications.
  • Promote participation, monitor attendance and follow up non-attendance.
  • Build relationships with community, education, and employer partners to widen progression.
  • Create safe, respectful environments and manage group dynamics and safeguarding concerns.
  • Complete risk assessments and maintain audit-ready participant records.
  • Monitor outcomes and use data to improve the activity offer.
  • Support progression into mentoring, training, work experience or employment.
  • Manage activity budgets and ensure value for money.
  • Keep knowledge of local labour markets and available support up to date.
  • Work flexibly across locations and outside hours when required.

Activity Coordinator

Salary: £34,000

Contract: Permanent

Location: South West London

This role will require travel across the local area covering Croydon, Kingston upon Thames, Merton, Richmond upon Thames, Sutton, Wandsworth

The Role

As an Activity Coordinator, you will design and deliver engaging, inclusive and employment-focused activities for young people aged 18–24. You will create opportunities that build confidence, resilience, transferable skills and workplace awareness, using a range of activities including sport, creative arts, technology, gaming, outdoor activities and community projects.

Working closely with Mentors, employers and community partners, you will ensure activities are purposeful, accessible and linked to each participant’s progression towards employment, education or training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver engaging, inclusive activities that build confidence, employability, transferable skills and workplace awareness.
  • Plan sessions with clear objectives, resources and appropriate adjustments to meet varied participant needs.
  • Use creative, digital, sporting, outdoor and community-based activities to engage young people and support personal development.
  • Work closely with Mentors to align activities with participant action plans, progression goals and individual support needs.
  • Develop practical employability opportunities including employer talks, workplace visits, careers activities, mock recruitment, volunteering and project-based learning.
  • Coordinate external partners, venues, schedules, resources and participant communications, ensuring activities are accessible and well organised.
  • Promote participation, follow up non-attendance and take action to maintain engagement.
  • Build effective relationships with community, education, specialist and employer partners to widen participation and progression opportunities.
  • Create safe, respectful and inclusive environments, managing group dynamics and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns, disclosures and challenging behaviour.
  • Complete required risk assessments, incident records and safeguarding documentation, maintaining accurate and audit-ready participant and activity records.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement, feedback and outcomes, using information to evaluate and continuously improve the activity offer.
  • Support participants to progress into mentoring, training, work experience, interviews, education or employment.
  • Manage activity resources and agreed budgets responsibly, ensuring value for money and safe use of equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of youth employment, local labour markets and relevant support available to young people.
  • Work flexibly across locations and, where required, outside standard hours to meet participant and programme needs.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience planning and delivering engaging activities for young people or young adults, particularly those facing barriers to education or employment.
  • Strong facilitation, communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage participants while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Ability to turn creative, recreational or practical activities into meaningful employability and personal-development opportunities.
  • Experience in youth work, employability, education, community development, careers, coaching or similar services.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality, inclusion, accessibility, health and safety, risk assessment, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Ability to manage group dynamics, challenging behaviour and sensitive situations appropriately.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate venues, partners, activities, resources and competing priorities.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, digital tools and electronic record keeping.
  • Knowledge of local community provision, training, apprenticeships and employment opportunities is desirable.
  • A relevant qualification or first-aid qualification would be advantageous.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly across the local area and work flexibly to meet participant and programme needs.
  • Commitment to participant voice, inclusion and high-quality customer service.
  • Willingness to complete required training and appropriate checks, including DBS where required.
