Job description

A fantastic and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Activities Assistant to become part of our team at Barty House Nursing Home in Bearsted, Maidstone.

Working Pattern:

This is a part-time role for an average of 20 hours every week.

You will be required to follow a fortnightly shift pattern, working 3 days one week (24 hours) and then 2 days (16 hours) the following week.

Shifts will be organised on a flexible basis across the week from Monday to Sunday, so you will be required to work some weekends, and the days that you are asked to work each week may vary.

About the Role:

Activities are vital to the health and wellbeing of our residents. You will work with the head of activities and other members of the team to organise a varied programme of meaningful activities inside the home as well as trips out to places of interest. These can be group activities in the lounge or garden, or sessions on a 1:1 basis with individual residents.

You will need to be warm and supportive, able to encourage and motivate others, and build positive relationships with residents. It is important for you to know residents’ likes and dislikes so that activities can be as person-centred as possible. You must also be creative and a good organiser, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be proficient in systems and IT.

You will need to liaise with outside organisations to arrange for singers, musicians, art and craft specialists, and friendly animals to come safely into the home. Another key duty is to take photos of activities and events to send to the residents’ families and the marketing team for posting on the home’s website, Facebook page, and other social media outlets.
