Job summary

Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Burnley, seeking an experienced Accounts Senior to take responsibility for preparing and reviewing accounts and advising clients.

You will work closely with a varied client base, support junior colleagues, manage your own workload to meet deadlines, and benefit from study support and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as Accounts Senior or Senior within UK_ACCOUNTANCY practice.
• AAT qualification with progression towards ACA/ACCA.
• Strong experience preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and Ltd companies.
• Good understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end accounts and statutory financial statements for diverse clients.
• Produce draft tax computations and schedules for tax returns.
• Review work of junior colleagues to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Provide guidance and training to junior team members.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and answer queries professionally.
• Manage workload and meet deadlines and budgets.
• Prepare VAT returns and support related queries.
• Identify and resolve accounting issues and escalate complex matters.
• Support team with assignments and keep the department running smoothly.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you an experienced Accounts Senior looking for a role offering greater responsibility, a varied client portfolio and the opportunity to continue developing your career within a supportive accountancy practice?

Butler Rose is recruiting on behalf of an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice in Burnley, which is looking to strengthen its team with an experienced Accounts Senior.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and professional working environment, where you'll take responsibility for preparing and reviewing accounts, work closely with a diverse range of clients and play an important role in supporting the development of junior colleagues.

The position would suit someone who has built a strong foundation within a UK accountancy practice and is now looking for a role offering greater autonomy, client contact and the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a busy and successful team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely with experienced colleagues and a varied client base, your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing year-end accounts and financial statements for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies


• Producing statutory accounts in accordance with relevant accounting standards


• Preparing draft tax computations and supporting schedules for tax returns


• Reviewing accounts and other assignments completed by junior members of the team, ensuring accuracy and quality


• Providing guidance, training and support to junior colleagues to help develop their technical skills and confidence


• Liaising directly with clients to obtain information, resolve queries and provide a professional, responsive service


• Managing your own workload and ensuring assignments are completed within agreed deadlines and budgets


• Preparing VAT returns and supporting clients with related queries


• Identifying and resolving accounting issues, escalating more complex matters where appropriate


• Supporting the wider team with client assignments and contributing to the efficient running of the department

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in accountancy practice, takes pride in delivering high-quality work and is confident taking responsibility for their own assignments.

IDEALLY YOU'LL HAVE....

• Previous experience as an Accounts Senior or an experienced Accounts Semi Senior within a UK accountancy practice


• AAT qualification, with the opportunity to progress towards ACA or ACCA if desired


• Strong experience preparing year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies


• A good understanding of relevant accounting standards and financial reporting requirements


• Experience reviewing work and supporting junior colleagues, or the confidence to develop these responsibilities


• The ability to manage assignments independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines


• Strong communication skills and the confidence to build and maintain professional client relationships


• Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving


• Good IT skills and experience using accounting software


• The ability to travel to client premises and between offices when required
