Job summary

Bennett & Game Recruitment Ltd. in Stevenage is seeking an Accounts Senior for a growing independent Accountancy Practice.

You will prepare year-end accounts for various clients, handle corporation and personal tax returns, and manage VAT and management accounts, with a focus on accuracy and client service. The role offers flexible hours, hybrid working after probation, and clear progression toward Senior Accountant and client portfolio ownership, with training for Xero and cloud accounting

Qualifications

• AAT qualified, ACA/ACCA part-qualified or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in preparing year-end accounts within an accountancy practice.
• Comfortable with VAT, corporation tax, and personal tax returns.
• Able to work directly with clients and manage deadlines.
• Familiar with cloud accounting technology, especially Xero.

Responsibilities

• Preparing year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Preparing corporation tax returns.
• Preparing personal tax returns.
• Preparing and reviewing VAT returns, depending on experience.
• Preparing management accounts.
• Completing accounts and tax work from client records through to draft stage.
• Identifying queries and communicating directly with clients to resolve them.
• Carrying out bookkeeping and accounting adjustments where required.
• Reviewing bookkeeping records before accounts preparation.
• Helping clients with Xero and other cloud accounting software.
• Liaising with HMRC and Companies House where required.
• Keeping clear records, notes and actions within our practice management system.
• Managing your own workload and deadlines.
• Supporting junior and trainee team members as your experience develops.
• Working closely with Client Managers and Directors on more complex assignments.
