Job summary

EQ Accountants, part of the Sumer Group, is seeking an Accounts Senior to operate at Controller level, owning technical delivery and guiding junior team members. You will be a key client contact, ensuring high-quality work across accounts and tax, while coaching others and contributing to advisory projects.

You will develop trusted client relationships, manage portfolios, plan tax engagements, and review accounts, providing strategic input and delivering an excellent service.

Qualifications

• Full or part qualified (ACCA, ICAS or equivalent) or qualified by experience.
• Strong technical grounding across accounts, tax and audit.
• Proficient with accounting, tax and audit systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop strong, lasting client relationships and act as trusted advisor.
• Manage a client portfolio with up-to-date records and deliverables.
• Plan and manage tax engagements with strategic input and review junior work.
• Oversee preparation and review of client accounts to support decision-making.
• Coach and supervise junior colleagues to ensure quality and growth.
• Balance workload and deadlines to deliver exceptional service.

We’re looking for an Accounts Senior to operate at Controller level, taking ownership of technical delivery, guiding junior team members and supporting clients with confidence. You’ll act as a key point of contact for clients, while ensuring high quality, technically sound work is delivered across accounts and tax. You’ll review and coach the work of junior colleagues, contribute to advisory projects and play an important part of building trusted relationships with our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop strong and lasting relationships with clients, understanding their needs and becoming a trusted advisor
• Manage a client portfolio, ensuring accurate and up to date records
• Plan and manage tax engagements, providing strategic advice and review junior colleagues work
• Oversee the preparation and review of client accounts, support client decision-making and contribute to advisory work as needed
• Supervise and mentor junior colleagues, ensuring quality and fostering growth through sound knowledge sharing and hands‑on support
• Manage your workload and deadlines effectively while ensuring deliver of an exceptional service

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Full or part qualified (ACCA, ICAS or equivalent) or qualified by experience
• Strong technical groundings across accounts, tax and audit
• Proficient with accounting, tax and audit systems
• Commercially minded with clear understand of client business contexts
• Organised with the ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities
