Job summary

Sharp Consultancy has partnered with a well‑established manufacturing business in Alfreton to recruit an Accounts Assistant on a full‑time, permanent basis. You will join a small, supportive finance team and own the weekly/monthly payroll while supporting a range of transactional and month‑end accounting duties.

The role requires payroll experience, strong Excel and Sage knowledge, and a keen eye for detail.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll and/or accounts-based roles.
• Familiarity with Sage accounting software.
• Strong purchase ledger and general accounting knowledge.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Strong communication with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
• High integrity and discretion with confidential information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly and monthly payroll for 45 employees.
• Manage HMRC submissions, P11Ds and pension administration.
• Oversee purchase ledger, invoice processing, GRN matching and supplier payments.
• Prepare weekly payment runs and process payments via HSBC.
• Manage employee expenses and private mileage claims.
• Complete bank and sundry debtor reconciliations.
• Prepare and post month-end journals.
• Support monthly management accounts preparation.
• Provide wider finance support to Head of Finance and team.
