Job Type: Permanent
Working Arrangement: Office-Based, 5 Days per Week

About the Company

Our client is an established business operating within the construction and infrastructure sector, currently undergoing an exciting period of organisational change and development.

Following a corporate carve-out, the business is establishing an independent finance function and investing in the systems, processes and people required to support its next stage of growth.

With a new finance team being developed at its Runcorn office, this is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to join the business during an important period of transition.

The Role

Reporting to the Lead Cost Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the transactional finance function.

You will be responsible for processing high volumes of supplier, agency and cost-of-sales invoices, maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling supplier accounts and assisting with payment preparation. You will also act as a key point of contact for supplier queries and internal commercial teams, ensuring invoices are processed accurately and discrepancies are resolved promptly.

The role will suit someone with experience in accounts payable, cost control or finance administration who enjoys working in a busy environment and takes pride in maintaining accurate financial information.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to improvements in finance processes and support data-cleansing activities as the business prepares for the implementation of a new ERP system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate discrepancies, resolve invoice queries and obtain the necessary approvals before processing.
  • Ensure costs are allocated correctly between projects and overhead accounts.
  • Maintain accurate records of invoices, approvals and payment information.
Supplier Queries & Inbox Management
  • Manage the Accounts Department email inboxes, ensuring incoming queries are reviewed and actioned promptly.
  • Act as a first point of contact for supplier enquiries relating to invoices, payments and account discrepancies.
  • Liaise with internal commercial teams to resolve invoice queries and obtain missing information.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with suppliers, colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure outstanding queries are tracked and followed through to resolution.
Reconciliations & Cost Control
  • Complete regular supplier statement reconciliations, investigating discrepancies between internal records and supplier statements.
  • Assist with reviewing and resolving aged items on the Goods Received Not Invoiced (GRNI) report.
  • Identify missing invoices, unmatched transactions and outstanding purchase order issues.
  • Support accurate cost reporting through the maintenance of reliable financial records.
  • Assist with month-end activities and other reconciliations as required.
Expenses & Payment Processing
  • Process monthly company credit card reconciliations and staff expense claims.
  • Check expenses for accuracy, supporting documentation and compliance with company procedures.

  • Review supplier records to help ensure information is complete, accurate and up to date.
  • Assist with validating supplier details, cost allocations and financial data.
  • Contribute ideas for improving transactional processes, reporting accuracy and departmental efficiency.
  • Adapt to changing processes and systems as the finance function develops.
About You
