Job summary

Affinia is recruiting a Bookkeeper for the Accounts department in our Harlow office. The role will involve full bookkeeping experience for the client portfolio and requires a professional approach with strong client communication.

We prefer AAT qualification or qualified by experience. You will work to deadlines, handle VAT/CIS returns, and utilise Xero, Sage or QuickBooks in a proactive, detail‑driven role with hybrid working options.

Qualifications

  • AAT qualification preferred or qualified by experience.
  • A professional approach with ability to communicate with clients via email, phone and face to face.
  • Experience with Xero, Sage and QuickBooks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of VAT and CIS.
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities at short notice.
  • Clear written and spoken communication with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Month end process and preparation of monthly reports.
  • Prepare revenue and turnover figures for clients.
  • Assist with yearend work and provide accurate trial balances.
  • Handle VAT and CIS returns and ONS Surveys for clients.

Purpose of the role:

Affinia is recruiting for a Bookkeeper to come and join the Accounts department in our Harlow office. The role will involve a full bookkeeping experience for the client.

Accountabilities:

With support, you will take responsibility for a portfolio of clients, assisting with:

  • Month end process
  • Monthly reports including revenue and monthly turnover
  • Supporting accountants with yearend, by providing accurate trial balance and reports
  • VAT Returns and CIS returns and ONS Surveys

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Preferably AAT qualified but qualified by experience considered
  • A professional approach with the ability to communicate with clients both via email, phone and face to face
  • Experience in Xero/Sage and QuickBooks
  • Ability to work towards deadlines
  • Understanding of VAT and CIS
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (Level 5 and above), which must include Maths and English language.
  • Ability to respond and be reactive to shifting priorities at short notice.
  • Have clear written and spoken communication and strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask under pressure and to mentor others.
