Job summary

Astute Recruitment are recruiting an Accounts Assistant to join an established business and become an important part of the finance team. This is a varied role covering transactional finance, reconciliations, and month-end duties.

The successful candidate will have AAT Level 3 (Level 4 or part-qualified advantageous), experience across purchase ledger, sales and reconciliations, and strong Excel skills. You will work independently and meet deadlines in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• AAT Level 3 minimum; Level 4 or part-qualified advantageous.
• Experience in a similar Accounts Assistant role.

Responsibilities

• Process purchase and sales invoices, credit notes and payments.
• Manage purchase ledger and supplier statements.
• Process expenses and credit card transactions.
• Conduct bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support month-end including journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Process subcontractor payments and applications.
• Support CIS and VAT including Domestic Reverse Charge.
• Assist with HMRC submissions and maintaining accurate records.
• Handle finance queries and support the wider team.

Key responsibilities:

• Processing purchase and sales invoices, credit notes and payments
• Managing purchase ledger and supplier statements
• Processing expenses and credit card transactions
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• Supporting month-end, including journals, accruals and prepayments
• Processing subcontractor payments and applications
• Supporting CIS and VAT, including the Domestic Reverse Charge
• Assisting with HMRC submissions and maintaining accurate financial records
• Dealing with finance queries and supporting the wider team

We’re looking for:

• AAT Level 3 qualified minimum – Level 4 or part-qualified advantageous
• Previous experience in a similar Accounts Assistant role
• Experience across purchase ledger, sales, reconciliations and month-end
• Good Excel and accounting systems knowledge
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Organised, proactive and able to work independently
• Construction/contracting experience and knowledge of CIS would be highly desirable
