Job summary

JSS is a growing specialist insurance business in Birmingham, recruiting an Accounts Assistant to work closely with the Financial Controller. You will gain broad exposure across finance, including accounts payable, bank reconciliations, month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations and regulatory reporting, with a focus on accuracy and process improvement.

This role offers hybrid working (two days in the Birmingham office), study support towards a finance qualification, clear progression

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, Purchase Ledger, AP or similar role.
• Solid understanding of basic accounting and double-entry bookkeeping.
• Strong attention to detail and organisation.
• Proactive, reliable and keen to develop.
• Accounting qualification or financial services experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Handle accounts payable, expenses and payment runs.
• Perform bank reconciliations and cash management.
• Assist with month-end accounting and journals.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support audit and financial reporting.
• Assist with insurance accounting and regulatory reporting.
• Contribute to finance controls and process improvements.
