We are looking for an Accounts Assistant to join the Ledger Close team within the wider FCP&R team (Financial Close Production and Reporting). The core remit of the role is to aid in the maintenance and reconciliation of the primary accounting ledgers, while supporting the delivery of team and departmental objectives.

The team's responsibilities are diverse, providing the successful candidate exposure to various accounting activities across parent company ledgers, with reporting duties across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles. This offers a well-rounded development opportunity.

Initially, the role will focus on operational accounting processes, including reassurance arrangements, HMRC pension tax relief submissions, intercompany reconciliations, settlement production, and daily & month-end accounting processes and controls.

About the role

  • Ensure accounting records are accurately maintained and all relevant Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed monthly, developing understanding of the main account drivers through analysis and investigation.
  • Support the monthly reconciliation process, utilizing AutoRek and Rekognize, and provide supporting evidence for review.
  • Prepare and process journals for monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts for the Life and Pension funds of the Mutual.
  • Develop analysis to support review, maintenance, and accuracy of the ledgers.
  • Communicate outcomes effectively to stakeholders, supporting Finance managers and developing SME knowledge.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement, focusing on controls, effectiveness, and efficiency.

About you

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have strong communication skills, confident in engaging with internal and external stakeholders both written and verbally.
  • Approach work dynamically, with an inquisitive mindset, problem-solving skills, and the ability to articulate work methods to peers. Capable of working under tight deadlines independently and collaboratively.
  • Possess a solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and experience in regular reconciliations.
  • Have working knowledge of Oracle Fusion or similar systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Be AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA or equivalent; study support may be available after probation.
