Job summary

Portfolio Payroll is seeking an Accounts Assistant for the Altrincham office. The role covers end-to-end finance tasks including payroll, AP/AR, VAT and reconciliations within a supportive finance team.

The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years’ finance experience, be eligible or qualified (AAT/ACCA/QBE), and be comfortable with Sage, Xero or IRIS. Salary is up to £35,000 with study support and clear progression opportunities.

• Strong understanding of double-entry, reconciliations and VAT

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll and accounts - journals, reconciliations, month-end support
• Accounts Payable - processing invoices, supplier payments
• Accounts Receivable - credit control, customer accounts
• VAT returns - preparation and submission
• Payroll admin - assisting with monthly payroll tasks
• Bank reconciliations - maintaining accurate financial records
• General finance admin - filing, data entry, client communication
• Software - Sage / Xero / IRIS preferred

Portfolio Payroll are working with a leading a reputable accountancy practice in Altrincham who is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant with strong all-round finance experience. This role suits someone with 2-3 years' experience who can confidently support the full end-to-end accounts process, including AP/AR, VAT, reconciliations, and some payroll administration.

They're open to AAT / ACCA qualified or qualified by experience, and ideally someone familiar with Sage, Xero or IRIS.
