Job summary

Portfolio Payroll Limited, acting with a leading accountancy practice in Altrincham, seeks an Accounts Assistant with solid end-to-end finance experience.

You will support AP/AR, VAT, reconciliations, and payroll administration with 2–3 years' experience. AAT/ACCA or qualified by experience is welcomed; familiarity with Sage, Xero or IRIS is preferred. Salary up to £35,000 with study support and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of finance experience (practice or industry).
• AAT / ACCA qualified or qualified by experience.
• Strong understanding of double-entry, reconciliations, and VAT.

Responsibilities

• End-to-end payroll and accounts - journals, reconciliations, month-end support.
• Accounts Payable - processing invoices, supplier payments.
• Accounts Receivable - credit control, customer accounts.
• VAT returns - preparation and submission.
• Payroll admin - assisting with monthly payroll tasks.
• Bank reconciliations - maintaining accurate financial records.
• General finance admin - filing, data entry, client communication.
• Sage / Xero / IRIS preferred.

Portfolio Payroll are working with a leading a reputable accountancy practice in Altrincham who is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant with strong all‑round finance experience. This role suits someone with 2-3 years' experience who can confidently support the full end‑to‑end accounts process, including AP/AR, VAT, reconciliations, and some payroll administration.

They're open to AAT / ACCA qualified or qualified by experience, and ideally someone familiar with Sage, Xero or IRIS.
