Job description

Audit and Risk Recruitment are partnering with an East London Local Council in the search for 3 fully qualified accountants for temporary contracts paying £347.06 - £456.25 per day.

Responsibilities
  • Management of financial mechanisms behind the DSG Schools Block, Schools Finance, and social care funding to ensure effective budget management and compliance.
  • Using analytical skills to assess financial data, spot trends, and provide actionable insights to Senior Leaders.
  • Business partnering with key stakeholders in Social Care and Schools Finance.
  • Providing financial support and advice to service managers in departments overseeing Public Realm, Culture, and Community Safety.
  • Supporting stakeholders with budget setting, monitoring of grants, and year-end processes.
  • Driving financial improvements across the directorate through business partnering.
  • Managing budgets for a wide range of services run by the Council, such as Arts, Parks and Events, Idea Stores, Leisure Centres, and various neighbourhood safety initiatives.
  • Line management of 2-4 team members.
  • Managing statutory 251 returns, working with the Department for Education (DfE) on the allocation of education budget and school expenditure.
  • Leading a Schools Finance Team of seven people, reporting to the Head of Finance for Children’s, Schools, DSG.
About You

As a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA accountant with post-qualification experience in a local government setting, you will leverage your expertise to enhance service efficiency and maximise value for money. You will have a track record of leading and motivating teams, empowering staff to achieve high standards while establishing credibility with Heads of Service, Corporate Directors, and key stakeholders.

You will bring a solid understanding of financial management and regulatory frameworks, especially in the public sector. Your familiarity with the role of Local Authorities and the financial needs of these service areas, along with your knowledge of best practices in budget monitoring and control, make you a valuable asset.
