RECRUITCORP LTD T/A Franklyn Associates is seeking a Practice-Based Accountant for an office-based role in Stevenage. The successful candidate will manage SME client portfolios, prepare year-end accounts, and handle tax and payroll tasks within a busy practice.

The role requires ACCA/ACA qualification or equivalent experience, strong UK accounting knowledge, and proficiency with cloud software such as Xero. This is a full-time, permanent position with on-site working arrangements.

Qualifications

• Experience in an accountancy practice is essential.
• ACCA/ACA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage SME client portfolios as main contact.
• Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
• Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, and VAT.
• Handle bookkeeping and management accounts.
• Assist with payroll processing when needed.
• Review junior staff work and provide guidance.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and HMRC.
• Support process improvements and wider team.

About the Role

A well-established accountancy practice in Stevenage is seeking an experienced and confident Accountant to join their growing team. This is a hands-on role supporting a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a busy practice environment and enjoy building strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their main point of contact
• Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
• Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, and VAT submissions
• Handle bookkeeping and management accounts as required
• Support clients with queries around accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
• Assist with payroll processing when needed
• Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance
• Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and HMRC regulations
• Contribute to process improvements and support the wider practice team

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice (essential)
• ACCA/ACA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience
• Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements
• Confident preparing accounts from incomplete records
• Proficient with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
