Job summary

Pro-Recruitment in Stafford is seeking an experienced Accountant to join a small, friendly practice. The role offers a varied, hands-on workload combining bookkeeping and accounts work for a portfolio of clients.

The ideal candidate will have strong Xero experience, prior practice exposure, and the ability to work independently. This position is based in Stafford with a hybrid, office-based arrangement three days per week.

Qualifications

• Experience working in an accountancy practice.
• Strong bookkeeping and accounts preparation experience.
• Experience preparing VAT returns and management accounts.
• Excellent experience using Xero (essential).
• AAT/ACA/ACCA or equivalent qualification or QBE.

Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end accounts for a range of clients.

A well-established, independent accountancy practice based in Stafford is looking to appoint an experienced Accountant to join their small and friendly team.

This is a varied, hands-on role that would suit either a qualified accountant or an experienced QBE who enjoys working closely with clients and getting involved across a broad range of accounting work.

You will be responsible for a mixture of bookkeeping and accounts duties, supporting a portfolio of clients across their day-to-day accounting requirements.

What you will be doing as an Accountant

• Preparation of year-end accounts for a range of clients
• Bookkeeping and maintaining accurate financial records
• Preparation and submission of VAT returns
• Preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts
• Bank reconciliations and general ledger work
• Assisting clients with day-to-day accounting queries
• Liaising directly with clients and building strong working relationships
• Supporting with general accounts and practice-related duties as required

What you will need to succeed as an Accountant

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
• Strong bookkeeping and accounts preparation experience
• Experience preparing VAT returns and management accounts
• Excellent experience using Xero - this is essential
• AAT, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification would be advantageous, although QBE candidates will also be considered
• Good communication skills and a client-focused approach
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
