Alexander Lyons Solutions in Huddersfield is seeking a Senior Accountant for a practice role with hybrid working 1-2 days in the office. You’ll own a varied portfolio and advise clients on accounting, taxation and business growth.

The role combines technical accounting with client advisory, with opportunities for progression and partnership in the future. Salary £40,000–£50,000 plus bonus; full-time permanent role.

Qualifications

• ACA, ACCA or QBE status is required.
• Experience in an accountancy practice is essential.
• Strong accounts preparation experience is expected.
• Knowledge of taxation and corporation tax is needed.
• Experience managing a portfolio of clients is required.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Managing your own portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients.
• Acting as the main point of contact for your clients.
• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts.
• Preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns.
• Managing VAT returns.
• Preparing management accounts.

The Senior Accountant Role

As a Senior Accountant, you’ll take responsibility for a portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SME clients across a variety of sectors.

You’ll operate as a trusted adviser, helping clients with their accounting, taxation and wider business requirements.

Your responsibilities as a Senior Accountant will include:

• Managing your own portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients
• Acting as the main point of contact for your clients
• Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts
• Preparing and reviewing corporation tax returns
• Managing VAT returns
• Preparing management accounts
• Supporting clients with tax planning and business growth
• Advising clients on profitability and commercial opportunities
• Building long-term relationships with clients
• Liaising with HMRC on behalf of clients
• Handling client queries and providing practical solutions
• Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team
• Identifying opportunities to improve the client experience
• Adding value through proactive accounting and business advice

This is a Senior Accountant position where you’ll be trusted to take ownership rather than simply work through a set list of tasks.

My client is keen to speak with an experienced Senior Accountant, Practice Accountant, Accounts Senior or Client Manager who is confident working directly with clients.

The ideal Senior Accountant will have:

• ACA, ACCA or QBE status
• Previous experience within an accountancy practice
• Strong accounts preparation experience
• Good knowledge of taxation and corporation tax
• Experience managing a portfolio of clients
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• A proactive and commercial approach
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience working with SME and owner-managed businesses
• Knowledge of cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks and Sage
