Job summary

Babcock is seeking an Access Officer for our Devonport Royal Dockyard site in Plymouth to safeguard visitors, contractors and stakeholders while supporting critical national infrastructure.

Day-to-day you will process access requests, verify IDs and clearances, and maintain visitor records with exceptional attention to detail. This full-time role (35 hours) uses 10:00–18:00 Mon-Thu and 13:00–18:00 Fri; Security Check clearance is required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Administering security clearances, access permissions and visitor records with a high degree of accuracy.
• Supporting customers and stakeholders through the access application process while delivering excellent service.
• Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with established site security processes.

The role

As an Access Officer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring visitors, contractors and stakeholders can access site safely and securely, helping to support critical national infrastructure while developing valuable administration, customer service and security-focused experience.

Day-to-day, you'll responsible for managing a high volume of visitor and contractor access requests, ensuring all applications are processed accurately and in line with established security procedures. This is a varied role where attention to detail, customer service excellence and strong organisational skills are essential.

You'll work closely with internal teams, contractors and visitors, helping to maintain secure access arrangements across the site. Every day brings new challenges, making this an excellent opportunity to build experience within the defence sector while contributing to work that truly matters.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. Set working times are 10:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Thursday and 1:00pm to 6:00pm Friday.

Essential experience of the Access Officer

• Strong administrative and organisational skills.
• Experience working within a customer-facing environment.
• High levels of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to interpret and apply procedures consistently.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and IT systems.

Qualifications for the Access Officer

• GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C/Grade 4 or above, or equivalent qualifications.
• Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
• NVQ in Customer Service.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
