Job summary

Babcock International in Plymouth, Devon, is seeking a Berthing Services Project Engineer to coordinate vessel movements and berthing operations at Devonport Royal Dockyard. You will manage end-to-end service requests, liaise with berthing officers and stakeholders, and drive improvements in waterfront planning and asset availability.

Job Title: Berthing Services Project Engineer

Location: Plymouth, Devon

Compensation: £32,500 - £40,700 Depending on Experience + Benefits

The role

As a Berting Services Project Engineer, you'll play a vital role in supporting vessel movements and essential marine services that underpin national defence capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team responsible for coordinating critical berthing activities, managing operational priorities, and ensuring the availability of key infrastructure and assets. You'll work closely with a range of stakeholders, helping to deliver safe, efficient and effective operations while developing your project engineering and operational planning expertise in a unique and rewarding environment.

Day-to-day, you'll be part of a highly respected operational team that supports the safe arrival, departure and servicing of vessels at Devonport Royal Dockyard. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on complex waterfront operations while building valuable experience in project engineering, planning, stakeholder management and continuous improvement.

• Managing end-to-end service requests relating to vessel movements, waste services and waterfront operations.
• Coordinating berthing schedules to ensure safe, efficient and timely execution of operational activities.
• Collaborating with operational teams and berthing officers to resolve issues and balance competing priorities.
• Monitoring and coordinating maintenance schedules for critical waterfront assets to maximise operational availability.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with contractual, legislative and regulatory requirements.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Berting Services Project Engineer

• Planning and scheduling experience within an operational, engineering or project environment.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Word.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proven problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to delivering solutions.

Qualifications for the Berting Services Project Engineer

Essential:

• Relevant engineering, project management or technical qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Maximo, Coupa, SAP and Waterfront Contract System software.
• Project management qualifications or professional memberships.
