Job summary

Swansea City AFC is seeking a skilled physiotherapist to join the Medical and Performance Department. You will provide expert physiotherapy across the Academy, including injury assessment, gym and pitch-based rehabilitation, and matchday cover.

You will deliver evidence-based treatments, maintain medical records, and work within a multidisciplinary team to optimise player health and development. The role requires HCPC and CSP registration, an undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy (MSc

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy and HCPC/CSP registration required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a sporting environment.
  • DBS check undertaken and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physiotherapy support across the Academy including injury assessment, rehab, and matchday cover.
  • Deliver hands-on treatments and gym protocols to ensure readiness for training and matches.
  • Work with the performance department to transition rehab into training and optimise player development.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and ensure accurate medical notes.
  • Maintain compliance with governance standards and participate in audits.
  • Lead evidence-based protocols for physiotherapy and soft tissue therapy.
  • Stay updated with clinical advances and attend required meetings and CPD events.
  • Keep qualifications and CPD up to date, meeting CSP/HCPC standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to optimise player health and performance.
  • Provide feedback to performance department through regular reviews.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To provide physiotherapy support across the Academy programme including injury assessment, gym and pitch-based rehabilitation, and matchday cover.
  • To provide hands‑on treatments and evidence based gym protocols to ensure readiness for training and games.
  • To work as part of the performance department to provide optimal transition from rehabilitation into the training group, as well as impacting the players individual development programmes to ensure robustness.
  • To demonstrate and deliver expert technical assessment and diagnostic skills ensuring individualised and relevant treatment plans are formulated and executed.
  • Ensure detailed records of all actions are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures (i.e., medical notes)
  • Be compliant with all professional governance standards and participate in clinical audit and other quality assurance processes in‑line with HCPC governance guidelines.
  • Drive the development and delivery of evidence-based protocols for all areas of physiotherapy and soft tissue therapy provision with the Academy.
  • To keep up to date with clinical, scientific, and technical innovations, attending meetings, courses and seminars as required, to maintain the highest level of player care.
  • Ensure qualifications, training and CPD requirements are kept up to date and in line with any applicable regulations
  • Meet the standards and code of conducts set by the CSP and HCPC
  • To work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team including physical development coaches, technical and performance analysis staff to optimise player physical development, health, and performance.
  • Provide feedback to the performance department on the physiotherapy provision, including weekly/monthly review meetings.
  • Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the performance department that includes close links to all areas of the club.
  • Carry out any other reasonable management requests (i.e., projects and CPD).
About The Candidate
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy
  • FA Level 5 (ATMMiF) qualification, or a willingness to undertake and successfully complete the course within 6 months of appointment
  • Registration with HCPC and CSP
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience working within a sporting environment
  • DBS check undertaken
  • Right to work in the UK
  • MSc Degree in Physiotherapy or related subject area
  • Experience working within a professional football environment,

  • AACP Membership
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience of working within professional football, an Academy setting, or elite youth sport.
  • Good understanding of injuries and management

  • Good range of treatment and rehabilitation skills
  • Experience of using data & medical management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of data & confidential information
  • Experience of working in pressurised situations and to deadlines
