£28 per hour plus accrued holiday pay at £3.38 per hour

Randstad Student Support is recruiting for a Specialist Mentor for Mental Health to work with autistic students studying at universities and colleges.

The role begins at the start of the new academic year and is a hybrid role. All successful candidates must be able to travel to the local university or college and offer both in-person and online sessions flexibly to meet student preferences.

As a Specialist Mentor, you will be a trusted advisor for students. You will support students throughout the full academic year by helping them reflect on their experiences and introducing strategies to overcome barriers.

You will support students on a 1-2-1 basis to:

  1. Create strategies around organisation and time management
  2. Break down tasks to meet deadlines
  3. Achieve a balance between study and daily living
  4. Manage anxiety, stress, or low mood
  5. Prepare for new experiences
  6. Build confidence and strengths to foster independent learning

It is essential to consider individual student needs case by case, act professionally, and maintain confidentiality at all times. All relevant information should be shared with Randstad to ensure the best service.

Requirements for the role:

As this is a specialist role, you must hold membership with one of the following professional bodies. All students supported are funded by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), so candidates must adhere to the qualification frameworks set by the DfE.

  • BACP - The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • BPS - British Psychological Society
  • HCPC - Health and Care Professions Council
  • NCPS - National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
  • NMC - Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • SWE - Social Work England
  • SCW - Social Care Wales
  • UMHAN - The University Mental Health Advisers Network
  • COSCA - Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience working with clients with disabilities and/or mental health conditions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to help students build on their learning strengths while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload of students
