Job summary

International Schools Today invites applications for the Deputy Head (Academic) position. The appointee will join the Senior Leadership Team, lead curriculum development, assessment, and learning and teaching, and support strategic planning.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic record, teaching leadership experience in an independent girls’ school, and a commitment to high standards, professional development, and digital learning.

Qualifications

• Strong academic record and degree in a relevant discipline.
• Registration with the General Teaching Council or equivalent.
• Experience as head of department or senior leadership team member in another school.
• Understanding of independent girls’ school context and meeting diverse pupil needs.
• Ability to work calmly under pressure and lead with collegial, professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Qualifications Scotland arrangements and internal assessment diets.
• Lead the subject choice process and develop the annual whole school timetable.
• Oversee daily management of cover and support heads of department in learning and teaching.
• Promote sharing of good practice by leading in-service training and facilitating collaboration between teachers.
• Lead the ICT group in steering the development of the school’s digital strategy.
• Develop and review curriculum, assessment, learning and teaching, and staff professional learning policies.
• Maintain tracking and analysis of attainment data.
• Contribute to School Council discussions on curriculum, assessment, learning and teaching, and professional development.
• Contribute to marketing and promotion activities for the school.
• Share Senior Leadership Team cover during weekends and school holidays.
• deputise for the Head as required.
