Job summary

Citizen Housing Group Ltd, in partnership with Kaplan, is offering a Level 2 AAT Apprenticeship in Accounts/Finance. You will work on clerical support, data entry, and financial reporting while gaining hands-on experience.

The role is based at 4040 Lakeside, Solihull Parkway, Birmingham, with 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and starts on 21 September 2026. Training is provided by Kaplan Financial Limited.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English required.
  • Willingness to learn and develop finance skills.
  • Good maths, IT and English skills essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support to finance: data entry, processing transactions, analysis of income/expenditure and creation of financial reports.
  • Interrogate and analyse information from the finance database (Open Accounts).
  • Assist the Assistant Accountant with reconciliation of control accounts.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • To provide clerical support to the work of the finance function in the areas such as data entry, processing transactions, analysis of income and expenditure, nominal ledger journals and creation/production of financial reports
  • To interrogate and analyse information from the finance database (Open Accounts)
  • To assist the Assistant Accountant with the reconciliation of control accounts on a regular basis
  • Ensure good communication both verbally and in writing with internal and external customers
  • Be alert to opportunities to improve effectiveness of procedures to simplify/streamline existing procedures using IT and discuss with the Assistant Accountant
  • To support the Assistant Accountant at budgetary control meetings
  • Promote the good name of Citizen and its interests both within and outside the company
  • All work to be undertaken in line with the organisations policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Customer Involvement, Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with this post as reasonably requested by [Assistant Accountant and/or Accountant]

  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

This apprenticeship is a perfect match for someone without any accountancy or bookkeeping knowledge. On this programme they will learn the building blocks of the modern accountant. Not only will they grasp the fundamentals of bookkeeping, but we will help them develop those vital skills and behaviours to enable them to put their knowledge into action.

If you're new to accountancy and finance, looking to change your career into accountancy or have previously worked in an accounts department this level is ideal for you. You don't need any prior experience working in accounts to study AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. There are no entry requirements, but you do need good maths, IT and English skills, and a willingness to learn.

You'll learn a broad range of core accounting skills, including double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing as well as accountancy related business skills and personal skills.

You must successfully complete the following:

  • Introduction to Bookkeeping (ITBK)
  • Principles of Bookkeeping Control (POBC)
  • Principles of Costing (PCTN)
  • Business Environment (BESY)
