Kinaxia Logistics Limited in Washington is seeking a Transport Shift Manager to lead night operations, plan routes and ensure on-time deliveries. You will brief drivers, reallocate resources as needed, and maintain clear customer communications while adhering to legal transport rules.

The role requires strong planning, regulatory knowledge, and a proactive mindset to drive safety and efficiency across the night shift.

Responsibilities

• Take full operational responsibility for the transport operation during the night shift.
• Brief drivers and issue clear instructions before each shift.
• Monitor vehicles and deliveries for delays or failures.
• Replan work and allocate resources as needed.
• Maintain communication with customers about delays and revised times.
• Ensure booking references and delivery instructions are followed.
• Oversee paperwork and transport records.
• Prepare a handover for the day team.
• Ensure compliance with Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, DVSA requirements.
• Monitor driver conformity, vehicle checks and fleet issues.
• Coordinate breakdowns and out-of-hours fleet issues.
• Manage attendance, performance, conduct, and standards.
• Support investigations into incidents and service failures.
• Monitor service levels and KPIs; address underperformance.
• Control agency usage and night-time costs.
• Build relationships with customers, drivers and Kinaxia network.
• Identify practical improvements for safety and efficiency.

Kinaxia are looking to recrit a Transport Shift Manager to join their team at their site in Washington.

The role of the Transport Shift Manager will be to planand execute collection and delivery schedules via the most cost efficient and cost-effective means, in line with the business objectives, customer service levels and current legislative requirements.

About the job

• Take full operational responsibility for the transport operation throughout the night shift.
• Ensure drivers are properly briefed and have clear instructions before beginning their work.
• Monitor vehicles and deliveries throughout the shift, identifying delays or potential failures at the earliest opportunity.
• Replan work and allocate drivers, vehicles and trailers effectively when operational circumstances change.
• Maintain clear and timely communication with customers regarding delays, service issues and revised arrival times.
• Ensure all required customer procedures, booking references, late codes and delivery instructions are followed.
• Control the dispatch and debriefing process, ensuring paperwork and transport records are completed accurately.
• Produce a clear and comprehensive handover for the incoming day team.
• Ensure full compliance with Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, Operator Licence, DVSA and company requirements.
• Monitor driver infringements, defects, vehicle checks and other transport compliance requirements.
• Coordinate breakdowns, vehicle defects and out-of-hours fleet issues.
• Manage driver attendance, performance, conduct and operational standards.
• Support investigations into accidents, incidents, service failures and near misses.
• Monitor service, utilisation and operational KPIs, addressing areas of underperformance.
• Control agency usage and other night-time operational costs wherever possible.
• Build strong working relationships with customers, drivers and colleagues across the wider Kinaxia network.
• Identify practical improvements that make the operation safer, more reliable and more efficient.

Your knowledge and experience

• Logistics qualification would be desirable
• Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or equivalent is desirable
• Working knowledge of the Highway Code, EU tachograph requirements, Working Time Regulations, Road Transport Regulations
