Job description

3rd Line Network Engineer

Location: Huntingdon, UK

Clearance level: High DV – Developed Vetting

Pay Range: £44,700.00 – £57,300.00

Responsibilities

Provide a crucial role in Core Services, conducting complex fault rectification of incidents and supporting Problem Management, Continual Service Improvement (CSI) and occasional Change Request (CR) work on IT systems that support key national security outputs.

  • System Support & Ticket Resolution – Utilize technical expertise to keep the Core Network estate online and running smoothly, ensuring incidents are dealt with in a timely manner in accordance with KPI/SLA.
  • Problem Resolution – Work with resolver groups, manufacturers, users and suppliers to perform root cause analysis and provide technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Maintenance – Complete and record periodic maintenance of all systems, using PPM and routine upgrade activities to stay ahead of obsolescence.
  • Documentation – Maintain and create documentation of system configuration changes, accurately recording work.
  • Resource Movement – Assist in configuration, installation and deployment of infrastructure components.
  • Participation in Projects – Engage in infrastructure‑related projects and CRs, contributing to implementation, build and testing phases.
Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of Cisco Enterprise LAN environments at 3rd line support level, including deployment, administration and troubleshooting. Ideally CCNP and CCDP level.
  • Focus on secure LAN environments, including security boundaries and rulesets.
  • Good understanding of WAN connectivity and routing protocols, with experience in implementing, configuring and managing virtual and physical networking solutions.
  • Hands‑on experience in troubleshooting Layer 2/3 switching and routing.
  • Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting VPC, VDC, STP, BGP, OSPF and other key mainstream protocols.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Sidewinders and ASAv firewalls, focusing on ISR, 6800, 3750 and 3850 series.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Fortigate, Sonicwall, Palo Alto, ForcePoint, ASAv and Juniper firewalls.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, comfortable working independently and autonomously.
  • Ability to tackle complex problems and incidents.
  • Experience in ITIL ICT service delivery on critical infrastructure.
  • Experience working under pressure to meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities.
  • Experience in patch management, including analysis and deployment.
