This is a great opportunity to join a nationally recognised assistive technology team and, through jointly leading our technical team, to support the team to maintain and improve its excellence in provision of specialised assistive technology.
Barnsley Assistive Technology delivers specialised services for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Environmental Control across Yorkshire and the Humber. The team is directly commissioned by NHS England to deliver these two specialised services. The team has an excellent national and international reputation for quality, innovation and research and development and has strong links with the University of Sheffield.
We are looking to recruit a registered Clinical Technologist/Healthcare Science Practitioner to work as a Lead Technologist as part of our Assistive Technology team. If successful, you will be jointly responsible for leading our technical team of specialist Clinical Technologist Clinical Engineers providing specialised Assistive Technology across Yorkshire and Humber. We are particularly looking for someone who can have responsibility for the delivery of the mechanical and mounting elements of the technical service, including the management of the engineering workshop.

Main duties of the jobIf successful as well as leading the team you will have a direct role in supporting the needs of children and adults through the provision and technical support of communication aids and environmental controls (including computer access equipment). You will help deliver the high quality services to our clients that they expect. You and the team will ensure specialised access equipment is setup and maintained safely and effectively. You will be responsible for a team that manages and provides thousands of items of technology each year. You will also be responsible for ensuring that this technology is provided in the most efficient and effective way for our clients including ensuring that we respond to faults and amendment requests in a timely way.
You will have knowledge of quality management systems and contribute to the maintenance of our CECOPs accreditation.
The people you visit may be children and adults with a range of underlying disabilities and your role will be to support installation and provision of specialist communication aids and environmental controls (including computer access equipment). This will include fault response and planned and preventative maintenance.
Access to and use of a car for work is thus essential and you will be expected to be based from and travel from home for some of the week, where this minimises travel and makes appointments more effective.
