Job summary

Allied Protek are recruiting an experienced Instrument Technician in Grimsby to support instrumentation and control systems on large industrial projects. You will work with a small team to install, calibrate, fault-find and maintain instrumentation, PLCs, DCS and SCADA across hazardous areas.

The role involves commissioning, loop checking, start-up activities and technical reporting, with a focus on safe operation and compliance with industry regulations.

Qualifications

  • Requires ONC or NVQ Level 3 in Instrumentation or Electrical.
  • Experience with hazardous area environments is desirable.
  • Experience with instrumentation calibration, maintenance and control systems is essential.
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS and SCADA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, maintenance, calibration, testing and fault-finding on instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Support engineering design activities for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Assist with commissioning, loop checking and start-up activities.
  • Interpret and work from engineering documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with BS EN60079, ATEX, and hazardous area regulations.
  • Carry out IS calculations and verification as required.
  • Support shutdowns, plant upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
  • Prepare technical reports and maintenance records.

Job description

Allied Protek are currently recruiting experienced Instrument Technicians based in Grimsby on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will work within a small team of Electrical and Instrument Engineers, delivering engineering solutions for large-scale industrial projects within the process industry.

The role will involve providing technical support, engineering expertise, and maintenance solutions across multiple departments, ensuring safe and efficient operation of instrumentation and control systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out installation, maintenance, calibration, testing, and fault-finding on a wide range of instrumentation and control equipment
  • Support engineering design activities for instrumentation and control systems
  • Assist with commissioning, loop checking, and start-up activities
  • Interpret and work from engineering documentation
  • Ensure compliance with BS EN60079, ATEX, and hazardous area regulations
  • Carry out intrinsically safe (IS) calculations and verification activities where required
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes and engineering reviews
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operations and maintenance teams
  • Support shutdowns, plant upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance records, and engineering documentation
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company safety procedures and industry best practices
Experience & Qualifications
  • ONC or NVQ Level 3 in Instrumentation or Electrical
  • CompEx qualifications desirable
  • Previous experience in a similar Instrument Technician role within the oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, or process industries is preferred
  • Experience working in hazardous area environments is desirable
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation calibration, maintenance, and control systems
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and industrial communication systems would be advantageous
  • Experience with management of change procedures and permit-to-work systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
