Job description

Companion Group is a AAA co-development gaming studio with a globally distributed and fully remote setup. We are renowned for overcoming the most intricate challenges in multiplayer game development, making us the primary choice for clients aspiring to elevate their multiplayer titles. Our expertise enables scalability, maximises player density, and crafts immersive gameplay experiences.

Seamlessly embedded within our clients’ in-house teams, we collaborate harmoniously to turn dreams into reality. Our portfolio features groundbreaking games developed alongside major studios. We take pride in our global remote team, which values clear communication and technical excellence.

Companion Group is working on a stylised rogue-like title for a first-party platform and PC. We’re looking for a 2D Concept Artist with a sharp eye for visual storytelling, a strong grasp of stylisation, and a deep understanding of how concept art supports real-time production. You’ll help define the world’s tone through iconic characters, environments, and mood pieces.

Reporting to the Art Director, the ideal candidate is a visual designer and storyteller who can deliver best-in-class artwork to pre-visualise sets, develop characters, environments, and support all visual development areas. You’ll also assist the Art Director by providing feedback to the team when required.

Your Responsibilities
  1. Create high-quality concepts for environments, characters, and props with a strong sense of style, mood, and storytelling.
  2. Work closely with Art Directors, Environment Artists, and Designers to establish the look and feel of the game world.
  3. Translate narrative and gameplay goals into visually compelling concepts that enhance world-building.
  4. Iterate quickly on ideas, from loose sketches to refined 2D blockouts or paint overs.
  5. Help maintain visual consistency across different aspects of the game.
  6. Support the art pipeline with references, visual targets, and style guides.
  7. Contribute ideas to shape the game’s art direction and identity.
Your Profile
  1. A professional with 2+ years of experience as a concept artist or a portfolio with shipped AA/AAA titles.
  2. Proven ability to create environment art in a stylised art style.
  3. An artist who understands the needs of interactive media, aware of how concept work feeds into 2D pipelines.
  4. Expertise in tools such as Photoshop or similar.
  5. Strong command of colour theory, lighting, shape design, and composition.
  6. A team player with excellent communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and the autonomy to own creative challenges.
  7. Experience working on rogue-like, action, or stylised titles.
  8. A gamer at heart with a solid grasp of current trends and player expectations in the video game industry.
  9. Fluent in English at a business level, comfortable in a remote-first work environment.
Bonus Skills
  1. Familiarity with Unreal Engine, especially for scene blockouts or style exploration.
  2. Passion for shaping bold, iconic game worlds and pushing visual storytelling through stylised design.
Benefits
  • Fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere.
  • Work alongside industry veterans.
  • Be part of a passionate, dynamic team working on exciting, boundary-pushing projects.

Take your creativity to the next level and help us craft unforgettable characters that evoke the magic of an iconic era. Apply now and embark on an incredible journey with one of the best game studios in the world!
