Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Band 6 Clinical Educator to join the Monklands Theatre education team. The post involves leading learning, coordinating educational activities, and delivering perioperative education across staff groups, with a focus on patient safety and staff development.

You will provide clinical leadership, supervise training, participate in recruitment, and support student nurses, operating department practitioners, and post-registration nurses pursuing specialist

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse or ODP with current Professional Registration.
  • Educated to Degree level or working towards.
  • Postgraduate expertise in perioperative practice preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical guidelines in perioperative care.
  • Proven leadership to manage service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Promote learning environment and staff development.
  • Coordinate educational activities within defined remit.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate perioperative education and training.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision across staff groups.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the team in Monklands Theatre as a band 6 clinical educator.

  • We have two posts available -
  • 1x Full-time permanent post
  • 1x full-time fixed term post for 6 months

Parts of the role include :

  • Promote and create an environment that encourages learning, teaching and the development of all staff, including those undergoing training
  • Responsible for the co-ordination of educational activities and staff development within a defined remit
  • Responsible for the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of education and training within the perioperative environment
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance and support to staff and is responsible for ensuring their supervision, training and education of a range of staff groups
  • Provide assistance with the recruitment process

Please note for the fixed term post for 6 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

In this key role, you will:

  • Promote and create an environment that encourages learning, teaching and the development of all staff, including those undergoing training
  • Responsible for the co-ordination of educational activities and staff development within a defined remit
  • Responsible for the ongoing planning, implementation and evaluation of education and training within the perioperative environment
  • Provide clinical leadership, guidance and support to staff and is responsible for ensuring their supervision, training and education of a range of staff groups
  • Direct and assist with the planning and delivery of clinical teaching of student nurses/operating department practitioners and Associate Practitioners, registered nurses operating department practitioners and post-registration nurses undergoing specialised qualification
  • Support and manage nursing staff and Associate Practitioners within the operating theatre department (perioperative) ensuring that patient’s needs are assessed, care planned, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of the multidisciplinary team
  • In conjunction with the Senior Charge Nurse exercise effective management of the theatre/department
What You'll Bring
  • Registered Nurse or ODP with valid Professional Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
  • Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
