Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire seeks an experienced Infection Prevention & Control Nurse to provide senior specialist leadership for the Monklands Replacement Project. You will embed IPC principles across construction, commissioning and handover, influencing design, water safety and ventilation to ensure a safe, compliant hospital ready for operation.

You will collaborate with project teams to develop IPC assurance documents and ensure ongoing IPC systems are sustainable in the future hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration and clinical leadership capability.
  • Master's level education or higher with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Knowledge of NHS Scotland leadership frameworks and IPC governance.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in healthcare settings.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control in healthcare built environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic IPC leadership and assurance during construction, commissioning and handover of the new hospital.
  • Lead IPC input into built environment, clinical layouts, patient/staff flows and finishes for cleanability.
  • Oversee water safety, ventilation and other high-risk infrastructure per national guidance.
  • Collaborate with NHSL MRP stakeholders, design teams, project managers and contractors to ensure IPC safety and compliance.
  • Influence design decisions to meet IPC standards and develop IPC assurance documents and risk assessments.
  • Embed sustainable IPC systems within the future operational hospital.

Job description

The Monklands Replacement Project Team are responsible for bringing together the strategic delivery of services and will plan, procure and deliver a New Acute Hospital. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Infection Prevention & Control Nurse (IPC) to provide senior specialist leadership and assurance for the new build project.

This is a unique opportunity to influence the construction, commissioning and opening of a new healthcare facility, ensuring infection prevention and control principles are embedded throughout these phases through to live clinical operation.

The Role
  • Provide strategic IPC leadership and assurance throughout the construction, commissioning and handover phases of the new hospital.
  • Lead IPC input into the built environment, including clinical layouts, patient and staff flows, environmental finishes, isolation facilities and cleanabiity
  • Provide IPC oversight of water safety arrangements, ventilation systems and other high-risk infrastructure, working in line with relevant national guidance and standards.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively with NHSL MRP stakeholders, design teams, project managers and contractors to ensure the hospital is safe, compliant and fit for purpose from an IPC perspective.
  • Challenge and influence design and construction decisions to ensure IPC standards are met.
  • Contribute to the development of IPC assurance documentation, risk assessments and reports.
  • Ensure IPC systems and controls are embedded and sustainable within the future operational hospital.

What we’ll need you to bring
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland’s Leadership Qualities framework or equivalent framework
  • Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the health care agenda.
  • Experience of assessing training needs
  • Experience of resource management i.e. financial; human; capital
  • Experience in service planning, project management and performance monitoring/reporting
  • Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data
  • A proven track record in sound and effective leadership. Ability to think strategically, corporately and act as a team player
  • A proven track record in developing innovative solutions in meeting organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change
  • A proven track record in developing teams/services and integrated solutions to complex and challenging problems
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

  • Evidence of continued professional courses, which include infection prevention and control in the Healthcare Built Environment.
  • Evidence of involvement in healthcare Built Environment Projects.
  • Effective communication and liaison with both internal and external project personnel.
  • Knowledge of national guidance documents which form the framework for best practice for healthcare built environment infrastructure.
