Job summary

The Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust seeks a practitioner to assess patients referred from the emergency department and hospital wards, covering mental health problems, self-harm, psychiatric crises and psychosomatic issues. The role requires autonomous work in a 24/7 service and can be full-time or part-time.

Eligible applicants include registered mental health nurses (NMC), occupational therapists (HCPC) or social workers (HCPC).

Qualifications

• ENB 998 or equivalent teaching and accessing qualification.
• Ability to act as practice supervisor or assessor, or equivalent.
• Experience of post-registration work with clients with severe and enduring mental illness.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients referred from the emergency department and hospital wards.
• Assess patients with mental health problems, self-harm or psychiatric crisis.
• Manage crisis situations and carry out risk assessments.
• Work autonomously, including in acute situations without direct supervision.
• Work with the multidisciplinary team, acute hospital colleagues, other mental health services and external agencies.
• Attend team meetings, case presentations and reflective practice sessions.
• Receive regular group and individual clinical supervision.
• Attend courses for individual development in line with the appraisal process.
• Work shifts across the 24/7 service, including weekends, nights and public holidays.
