The Ministry of Justice is recruiting prison officers for HMP Foston Hall, a women’s prison within the Women’s Prison Group. Officers protect the public by keeping the facility safe and building professional relationships with women in custody, often switching between peacekeeping, counselling and teaching within a single shift.

Applicants must be 18+, meet nationality and right-to-work requirements, and pass enhanced DBS, medical and fitness tests.

Prison officer post at HMP Foston Hall, a women's prison within the Women's Prison Group, part of the Ministry of Justice. Officers protect the public and build professional relationships with women in custody, moving between peacekeeping, counselling and teaching in a single day. Limited to women under an occupational requirement, this merit vacancy fills from a list valid for 12 months, with nights and weekends in the rota. Selection runs through online tests, an assessment centre and a medical and fitness test, and visa sponsorship is unlikely.

Checks & eligibility

• Aged 18 or over at the start of employment
• Meet Civil Service nationality requirements

• Resident in the UK for the last 3 years for category A prisons

• Pass a medical and fitness assessment
• Meet the eyesight standard in both eyes, with or without corrective lenses
• Hearing standard without hearing aids
• Tattoos not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable

• Driving licence and own transport (beneficial but not essential)
