Job summary

Vision for Education is currently seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Carnforth, Lancashire. The role involves providing tailored 1:1 support to a Year 7 pupil with autism, helping access lessons and develop independence and confidence within the school environment.

You will work closely with class teachers and the SEND team to apply strategies, monitor progress and offer pastoral support as required, building positive relationships with pupils and staff.

Qualifications

• Experience with secondary-age children.
• Experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs.
• Level 2 childcare qualification or equivalent.
• Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
• Patient, understanding and nurturing approach.
• Confident using own initiative.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Committed to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 7 pupil with autism.
• Help pupil access lessons and participate in learning.
• Support development of confidence, independence and social skills.
• Collaborate with teachers and the school's SEND team.
• Follow appropriate strategies and provide consistent support based on needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with the pupil.
• Support pupil academically and pastorally where required.
