Job summary

Dorset Council UK is seeking a caring 1:1 Teaching Assistant for a named child in Year 2. The role runs term-time plus inset days, with sessions 8:35am to 11:30am on Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri. The post is fixed-term until August 2027 and part-time, subject to experience.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and staff to ensure the child feels safe, supported and included in all school life activities. Experience with young children and strong communication are valued.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children, ideally in a primary school setting.
• Patience, nurturing, and adaptability to a child's changing needs.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
• Desirable but not essential: Level 2 or 3 TA qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to a named child in Year 2 according to individual learning and care needs.
• Support the child’s emotional, social, and academic development in the classroom and other activities.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and parents to implement and adapt learning strategies.
• Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Assist with record keeping and observations as required.

Salary: Grade 5, Point 5 - 6: £6,940- £7,050 per annum (subject to experience) 2026 pay award pending*

Contract: Fixed Term until August 2027, 11.67 hours (11 hours, 40 minutes) per week, 39 weeks per year (term time plus inset days)

We are seeking a caring, committed, and enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our team and provide dedicated support for a named child in Year 2.

This role is a wonderful opportunity for someone passionate about education and making a positive impact on a child’s learning and development. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider staff to ensure the child feels safe, supported, and included in all aspects of school life.

The working hours for this role will be 8:35am - 11:30am on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
