Job description

Company Description

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 60,000 individuals from cradle to career.

With extensive experience delivering services to children and young people who have experienced difficulties in mainstream schools and whose education has irretrievably broken down, we support learners to achieve academic and vocational targets and progress into education, training, and employment. This approach delivers significant long-term benefits to learners, parents and carers, communities, and local authorities.

Our independent schools and a range of tailored support programmes target young people who fall into high-risk groups at all key stages, including those who are excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and those with social, emotional, and/or mental health needs (SEMH) or special educational needs (SEN).

Job Description

You will provide support for one of our students, ensuring that the education provided is of high quality and that students are supported, motivated, and challenged.

If you have the passion, resilience, and determination to make a difference, this is a great opportunity to become part of a small team where you can see the impact of your interventions. Join us and help change young people's lives for the better.

As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, your main duties will be to:

  1. Engage in interventions both in and out of lessons to foster effective participation of students in the social, behavioural, and academic processes of the school.
  2. Work with the team to implement behaviour management strategies and develop relationships with students who may be vulnerable and have complex needs.
  3. Liaise with other agencies to ensure that student needs are fully met.
  4. Support the teacher in delivering engaging and successful lessons.
  5. Take small groups of students for defined activities.
  6. Hold Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
Person Specification

You will have a good standard of education; however, the role is supportive. You will need to learn aspects of behaviour management and possess the skills and attributes to implement strategies and utilise de-escalation techniques to diffuse behavioural issues. We are looking for candidates with:

  • High expectations of students’ behaviour and clear strategies for working with challenging students.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately.
  • Capability to work independently, supported by the teacher, with groups of or individual students.
  • Ability to work with challenging students, understand their needs, and demonstrate effective behaviour management strategies as required.
  • Experience of teaching children with EAL, SEN, speech and language difficulties, or other complex needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships and rapport with internal colleagues and external contacts (e.g., parents, education psychologists).
Additional Information

Contract: 37 hours per week, term-time only plus 2 weeks, fixed term until July 2026.

  • Pension scheme with matching contributions of up to 4%
  • Discounted shopping opportunities
