Job summary

The Edwin Group is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs in a welcoming primary school in Tameside. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to tailor activities and foster independence across the day.

Great emphasis on safeguarding, with DBS and safeguarding training required or to be completed before starting. Competitive daily rate and opportunities for CPD are offered.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school or SEND setting.
  • Calm, patient and nurturing approach to support learning.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs throughout the school day.
  • Adapt learning activities to individual needs and promote independence.
  • Support positive behaviour and create a safe, engaging learning environment.
  • Collaborate with class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and well-being.

1:1 Teaching Assistant (Full-time, Temporary)

£95 - £110 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Date: September 2026 (or sooner if available)

The School and Role
Are you a patient, caring and dedicated individual looking to make a real impact on a child's education? We are recruiting a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs in a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Tameside.

Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will provide tailored 1:1 support throughout the school day. You'll adapt learning activities, encourage independence, promote positive behaviour and help create a safe and engaging learning environment where the pupil can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

You’ll play a key role in helping one child access learning, build confidence and achieve their full potential within the classroom.

Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school or SEND setting.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to adapt to individual learning and behavioural needs.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to obtain one).
  • Relevant safeguarding training (or willingness to complete this before starting).
  • Experience supporting children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or other additional needs would be highly beneficial.
