Job summary

Refine Education is recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal pupil with complex needs (PMLD) in a Redbridge secondary school. You will use non-verbal methods to assist communication, sensory support and participation in activities, while adhering to safeguarding and behaviour plans.

Experience is valuable, but the key attributes are patience, resilience and the ability to build trust with a pupil who communicates without words. Training may be provided by the school.

Qualifications

• Experience is welcome whether personal or professional; patience and resilience are essential.
• Ability to build trust with a pupil who communicates without words.
• Familiarity with non-verbal communication methods (Makaton, PECS, symbols) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated, individual support to a single pupil in a secondary school with complex needs.
• Help the pupil communicate using non-verbal methods and communication aids.
• Support sensory, physical and learning needs to enable participation in school life.
• Stay calm, consistent and resilient in challenging situations and follow school plans.
