Job summary

Academics Ltd is seeking experienced teaching assistants to work on a 1:1 basis with children who have additional needs in Portsmouth. The role covers Early Years, KS1 and KS2, and requires experience with pupils who have speech and language communication needs.

Applicants with familiarity in Makaton or PECS and a collaborative approach to planning are preferred. Successful candidates will support pupils to access the Early Years curriculum, develop social skills, and work closely with the class

Qualifications

• Experience working with children essential.
• Preferably with special educational needs relating to speech and language.
• Experience in Early Years or Key Stage 1/2 provisions beneficial.
• Ability to adapt and modify learning materials.
• Experience with alternative communication methods (Makaton/PECS).

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to pupils with speech and language needs.
• Maintain high level of support for pupils’ needs.
• Plan and review with the class teacher and SEN coordinator.
• Attend appropriate inset sessions.
• Liaise with professionals outside the school.
• Support pupils at lunch and break times as directed.
