Job summary

Vision for Education is working in partnership with a local primary school in the DL2 Darlington area to recruit a caring, experienced Teaching Assistant for an immediate start. This full-time temporary position provides 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with Autism, helping learning, communication and social development while adhering to safeguarding policies.

You will collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO, adapting activities to meet needs and promote inclusion in a supportive school

Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN.
• Experience working on a 1:1 basis with primary-aged pupils.
• Experience supporting autistic children or similar needs.
• Good understanding of autism, communication differences, sensory needs and emotional regulation.
• Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
• Ability to build trusting relationships and provide consistent support.
• Confident in adapting activities to meet learning needs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to promoting inclusion, independence and positive learning experiences.
• Availability to work full-time and start immediately.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS2 pupil throughout the school day.
• Support the child's learning, engagement and participation in classroom activities.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the child's individual needs.
• Support communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence.
• Use consistent, positive and supportive strategies to encourage engagement and manage challenging situations.
• Help the child navigate classroom routines, transitions and changes to the school day.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to the child's individual triggers, needs and behaviours.
• Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to support the child's progress.
• Encourage positive relationships with peers and promote inclusion within the classroom.
• Maintain a calm, patient and reassuring approach, particularly when the child becomes overwhelmed.
• Follow the school's safeguarding policies and any individual support plans in place.
• Provide feedback to the class teacher regarding the child's progress, engagement and wellbeing.
