Job summary

Thrive Group is seeking a compassionate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a bright young girl in Key Stage 1 at a welcoming mainstream primary school on the Wirral.

The role focuses on building strong therapeutic relationships and providing both physical and communication support to ensure she can access education fully. Previous SEN or 1:1 experience is preferred, with training in Makaton/AAC desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience working with Key Stage 1 children, ideally within an SEN or 1:1 capacity.
• Skills: Knowledge of or training in Makaton and AAC communication devices is highly desirable.
• Attributes: A patient, proactive, and exceptionally observant nature.
• Commitment: A reliable individual who understands the importance of consistency for a child with complex needs.

Responsibilities

• Mobility & Physical Support: Assist the pupil in navigating both indoor and outdoor classroom environments safely.
• Communication Partner: Support her non-verbal communication by utilizing her AAC device and Makaton signs.
• Safety & Supervision: Maintain constant, vigilant supervision to prevent accidents and ensure her safety throughout the school day.
• Personal Care: Provide gentle and dignified support with personal care, assisting with clothing during toileting.
• Mealtime Safety: Ensure food is prepared safely and monitor during lunch and snack times due to choking risks.
