Job summary

A renowned special school in Bristol seeks an enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide 1:1 support for a KS1 child. The ideal candidate will show sensitivity, reliability, and effective communication with Deaf children. This role is fixed-term, offering the chance to work in an inspiring educational environment committed to inclusivity.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Deaf or hard of hearing children is advantageous.
  • Willing to undertake relevant training to gain necessary qualifications.

32.5h/wk - Mon-Fri 8.30am-3.30pm

Term time only + 5 INSET days

Fixed term contract - 02/09/25-31/08/26

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic LSA to provide 1:1 support for learning activities for a KS1 child on an individual basis in our Primary department. Experience of working with Deaf or hard of hearing children and young people is advantageous, but not essential.

Elmfield is a maintained Bristol special school for pupils aged 3-16 years which serves the Bristol and wider region. We have been consistently judged as 'Good' by Ofsted. Ofsted recognises that we are 'ambitious for pupils' and 'aspirational in our outlook'. Pupils have deafness as a primary need, some with additional Special Educational Needs, and we provide a Bilingual Deaf Education where BSL and English are used. Experience working with children with a range of additional needs will be an advantage.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Sensitive to the needs of the children
  • Punctual, reliable and committed
  • Able to work flexibly and use own initiative
  • Friendly, approachable and can work in a calm manner at all times
  • Able to provide individual and/or group support
  • Able to communicate effectively with children who use either BSL or oral English
  • Willing to undertake relevant training to gain necessary qualifications as required
