Protocol Education seeks a dedicated 1:1 Behaviour & SEND Support Assistant for a SEND primary pupil in Gateshead. The role focuses on behaviour support, emotional regulation and engagement to help the child access learning.

Ideal for graduates in Psychology, Education or related subjects, with a patient and resilient approach. DBS checks and safeguarding training are required; this is a temporary position with ongoing SEND opportunities.

Qualifications

• Candidate is a graduate or experienced in supporting behaviour and SEND in a primary setting.
• Experience with children or young people is beneficial but not essential.
• All applicants require safeguarding checks and training as per DfE guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil throughout the school day.
• Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation during lessons.
• Support learning and engagement through classroom activities.
• Help manage challenging or dysregulated behaviour calmly and safely.
• Develop a trusting relationship with the pupil and work with teachers.

1:1 Behaviour & SEND Support Assistant – Gateshead

Are You Calm, Patient and Confident Supporting Challenging Behaviour?

A welcoming SEND primary school in Gateshead is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to work with a Year 1 pupil who requires additional support with behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or experienced support worker who wants to build practical experience within SEND and primary education.

Your Role

You'll provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the pupil navigate the classroom and engage positively with learning.

Your day-to-day responsibilities could include:

• Supporting the pupil during lessons
• Encouraging positive behaviour
• Helping manage challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• Supporting emotional regulation
• Encouraging communication and social interaction
• Developing a positive and trusting relationship
• Helping the pupil engage with classroom activities
• Promoting independence and confidence
• Working alongside teachers and support staff

Consistency will be key. You'll help provide the structure and encouragement the pupil needs to feel safe and ready to learn.
