Job summary

Academics is seeking a dedicated One to One Autism Support Assistant in Huddersfield to provide tailored, therapeutic support to secondary pupils with ASC/ASD, helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally within a specialist setting.

You will work 1:1 with pupils, support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation, assist with routines, sensory strategies, and differentiated lessons, and contribute to IEPs and behaviour plans.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with ASC/ASD or complex SEN.
• A patient, empathetic, and calm approach.
• Knowledge of autism-specific strategies, sensory needs, and low-arousal techniques.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for secondary pupils with autism.
• Support communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and learning.
• Assist with structured routines, sensory strategies, and differentiated lessons.
• Help implement IEPs, individual targets, and behaviour plans.
• Work closely with teachers, families, and external professionals.
