About our service

The Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Services (ECFWS) brings together a range of existing services, having been commissioned by Essex County Council and the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board.

The service, which is provided by HCRG Care Group in partnership with Barnardo's, ensures that families continue to have easy access to local services, with staff able to reach children and families in the community; whether in one of our Family Hubs or Delivery Sites, an Early Years Setting or School, or in a family's home. This flexible and innovative new way of working is about providing services without walls and ensuring those families who need support the most are easily reached.

Healthy Family Support Practitioner Role
  • Work with children, young people and their families on a one-to-one or group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Partner with parents/carers to empower them and enable better outcomes for their children.
  • Collaborate with children's services, health agencies and other community-based services to provide the most effective support.
  • Undertake developmental and health reviews of children and young people at key stages of their life.
  • Provide support to families during the antenatal period (0-5yrs).

Additional responsibilities: work within an integrated team to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme; support the delivery of the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting Programme (MECSH); promote first relationships and attachment; promote the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI); deliver group sessions and evidence-based parenting support; support children to become school-ready; organise and undertake integrated two-year reviews in partnership with families EYS settings; deliver virtual ECFWS sessions; intervene with families where parental conflict is identified; lead health promotion activities at family hubs and delivery sites.

Essential requirements
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in children and young people with child development.
  • Experience working with children and young people.
  • Ability to establish rapport and build respectful, trusting, honest and supportive relationships.
  • Capability to observe, recognise and respond to developmental or behavioural changes.
  • Valid driving licence and car access.
  • Evidence of immunisations or immunity for MMR and Chicken Pox if required.
  • Able to wear PPE, including a protective mask, and comply with social distancing rules.
